The Poll Robert Allen Votes On, FWAA Super 16 is Out Eric Morris and OSU Got a Vote
STILLWATER – The first Football Writer’s Association of America Super 16 Poll is out. I know, what all football fans need this time of year and really any time of year, another poll to go with the magazines, the coaches poll, the Associated Press (out later this week), and now the FWAA Super 16. Hey, it’s poll time of year in college football. This poll is unique in that I believe it has a more fair representation of the national football media and former players over the Associated Press, which is limited to the fewer and fewer subscribers of that service. The FWAA is not limited to its’ membership as it branches out to even former players.
Like the coaches poll from earlier this week, Ohio State is number one and Oregon is two. A difference is that six different teams received first place votes. besides Ohio State with the leading 28, exactly half of the pollsters, Notre Dame got nine, Oregon and Indiana received seven, Texas with three, and Georgia with two.
Oklahoma State received a vote in the poll as ESPN’s Max Olson had the Cowboys No. 16 on his ballot. Texas Tech was the top Big 12 team at No. 11 and BYU was No. 15. You can see my votes as I had Oregon on top. No. 1 Ohio State down at four. I had most of the same teams as the consensus poll with the of SMU and Houston. I had the Big Ten signicantly higher with three of the top five. I had Texas and Oklahoma ranked lower than the consensus with Mississippi, Texas Tech, and USC higher. My poll did not have LSU or Michigan.

Of the voters of note, Wisconsin CFHOF running back Montee Ball, Kansas State CFHOF quarterback Michael Bishop, Ohio State running back and CFHOF member Keith Byers, Arkansas defensive lineman and CFHOF member Dan Hampton, and Notre Dame defensive tackle and CFHOF member Chris Zorich are among the 18 former players or coaches that are voters.
