STILLWATER – New Oklahoma State football head coach Eric Morris had to smile big today at the first ever Cowboys Kickoff Preview Luncheon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. Oklahoma State was able to boast that the Sept. 12 game with the preseason polls No. 2-ranked Oregon Ducks is sold out. The tough ticket includes sold out suites and club level seating as well as the primary bowl of Boone Pickens Stadium.

Calling all students for this season as you can make a difference in the excitement in BPS.

There was more news as the homecoming game with Colorado on Oct. 24 is also close to being sold out. Home games with UCF (Oct. 10) and with Texas Tech (Nov. 14) are selling well and have a legitmate chance to end up as sell outs.

Ticket sales held steady over the 2024 and 2025 seasons despite the dismal results on the field. However, Oklahoma State officials were hoping with the hiring of Morris and all of the positive publicity created by that and the transfer portal haul which included highly-regarded NFL quarterback prospect Drew Mestemaker, sensational running back Caleb Hawkins, a dynamite cast of receivers and others would generate the kind of excitement that sell lots of tickets.

In this day and time in college athletics where the players are being paid, some quite handsome like the $3.5 million to Mestemaker, Boone Pickens Stadium needs to be 2021, 2022, and 2023 full. Those seasons Mike Gundy’s teams were challenging for Big 12 honors and two of those seasons posted home wins over rival Oklahoma.

With softball, baseball, and especially wrestling selling their venues out well, the football news is welcome. There is a good chance that women’s basketball could get a major uptick in ticket sales. There is always hope that basketball would rebound some. Ticket sales are a huge revenue stream for athletics and they are hoping to maximize it. The football news really is a good sign.
