Oklahoma State in Final Four to Land Georgia Transfer, Sahvir Wheeler

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is still in the running to land one of the better transfer guards in the country. Former Georgia guard, Sahvir Wheeler, released his final four schools list and the Cowboys made the cut, along with Kansas, Kentucky and LSU.

Wheeler released a nearly 10-minute video of him and his father breaking down each of the schools, which you can watch here.

When they get to Oklahoma State towards the end of the video, his father said he trusts Mike Boynton the most because of what he was able to do with Cade Cunningham.

A 5-10, 180-pound sophomore guard out of Houston (TX) Christian High School, Wheeler led the Bulldogs in scoring (14.0), assists (7.4) and steals (1.7) this past season. He also broke Georgia’s single-season assist record with 193 and recorded three of Georgia’s top-6 single game assist totals, 13 against LSU and Missouri and 12 against Florida A&M.

The addition of Wheeler would give the Pokes a huge offensive boost going into the 2021-22 season, especially with the loss of production with the departure of Cade Cunningham.

Kansas, Kentucky and LSU are stiff competition for any team, but I do find it interesting Wheeler and his father watched all three team’s highlights on a computer, then switched to a projector to watch OSU’s on the wall.

They talk about how fast the Cowboys played this past season and how they could play even faster. It’s also mentioned how hard the guys play for Boynton and Co. It’s a common theme among recruits and current and former players about how Mike Boynton is a player’s coach and how they’d do anything for him because of how genuine and trustworthy he is. So, it’s not surprising to hear Wheeler and his father talking about that aspect of the recruiting process with the Pokes as well.

Boynton and Co. have committed and signed two transfers in the 2021 class, Syracuse forward Woody Newton and Texas Tech forward Tyreek Smith.
