Good football players find a way to stand out no matter the circumstances of the game. Caleb Hawkins is one of those players.
Oklahoma State beat West Virginia 41-24 on Saturday night in Morgantown, WV. One of the major storylines coming into the game was the Mountaineer defense’s ability to prevent opposing teams from running the football. Oklahoma State’s passing offense has drawn the majority of the headlines in recent weeks but the rushing attack has also been productive as the season has progressed.
Hawkins was one of the “triplets” who came over from North Texas in the offseason and was expected to make an immediate impact. Through three games he had yet to eclipse 100 yards and only had one touchdown. He had 180 yards on Saturday and led a rushing attack which saw much more success than any offense has so far this season against the Mountaineers. West Virginia’s defense was allowing 119 yards per game on the ground through the nonconference. Oklahoma State finished with 220 rushing yards in the game.
Hawkins also scored from 22 yards away in the third quarter to give the Cowboys a 28-24 lead. It was the first rushing touchdown allowed by the Mountaineers this season.
The win snapped Oklahoma State’s 18-game Big 12 losing streak dating back to 2023.
