STILLWATER – Having a wealth of resources at wide receiver always makes an offense flow more easily. Justin Bowick was the primary beneficiary on Saturday afternoon against UCF.

Oklahoma State beat the Knights 42-28 inside Boone Pickens Stadium to improve to 4-1 and 2-0 in the Big 12. It is the Cowboys first 2-0 start in conference since 2022.

Bowick led the team with six catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. Six catches is his most against an FBS opponent this season. His overall high was 9 against Murray State.

“he’s just a big target,” coach Eric Morris said. “The combination of his size and speed and how much better he’s gotten with his hands, he’s done a nice job.”

Bowick scored his fifth touchdown of the season in the second quarter on an 18-yard catch to give the Cowboys a 21-14 lead.

Bowick also had a 19-yard reception on the final play of the third quarter to reclaim momentum for the Cowboys after a seven-minute drive for the Knights. That drive ended in a missed field goal.

Bowick is one of two Cowboys to eclipse 100 yards in a game this season. Wyatt Young has hit the milestone twice and Bowick had a career-high 178 yards against Murray State. Then tandem on Saturday combined for 150 of quarterback Drew Mestemaker’s 304 passing yards.

“It starts on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday,” Bowick said. “We build up each other and watch each other’s film and kind of steal each other’s moves so that on Saturday it comes easy.”

Oklahoma State averages 327 yards passing per game which ranks seventh nationally and Mestemaker has been over 300 yards in every game except the season opener against Tulsa.

The win places the Cowboys in a position to achieve a top 15 ranking for the first time since 2024.

“Ultimately at the end of the day it’s the first time we’ve been able to beat UCF at Oklahoma State,” Morris said. “That’s an extremely positive thing. There’s no more bye weeks. We have to be tough enough to handle those places where we’re going to play.”
