Former President George W. Bush Has Rescheduled O'Brate First Pitch for Next Week
STILLWATER, OK – What was once scheduled for March 2020 will be taking place next week. According to a report from Bill Haisten of The Oklahoman, former president George W. Bush will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch in O’Brate Stadium.
In the report, it is said that Bush is scheduled to be in Stillwater on Thursday, May 20, for the first game of the Cowboy’s series against New Orleans.
Last year it was only eight days before Bush was to have been in Stillwater for the first conference series against TCU that the coronavirus threat compelled the NCAA to cancel all sports for the remainder of the year.
Just days ago, Oklahoma State announced they are returning to full capacity stadiums for home athletic events, so this being scheduled is particularly a surprise.
Ahead of the originally scheduled grand opening of O’Brate stadium, OSU head coach Josh Holliday said in a university release that, "The opening of O'Brate Stadium will represent a historic day for Cowboy baseball. The experience for our players, coaches and fans will be unlike any we have experienced in Stillwater. The ability to train our players and compete in a world-class facility is such a gift.”
"We can't put into words our appreciation to the O'Brate family and the other generous donors for making this dream come true. Our friends, fans, opponents and baseball enthusiasts will have an amazing experience in our new home."
If you have not been to O’Brate Stadium yet or have forgotten all of what it holds, the new home of Cowboy baseball includes approximately 3,500 permanent seats, 11 suites and 400 premium seats in dedicated club and suite areas. Seating can be expanded to 8,000 as needed.
