STILLWATER – Earlier this week we documented why we believe that Drew Mestemaker is so good and why we would select him as the first quarterback in either the NFL or a backyard game of touch. He is not only gifted, but he is smart and a “football nerd.”

The latest update on ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s top NFL Draft prospects for 2027 has Mestemaker No. 2 on the board right behind Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

This diving run for a first down on a 4th and three attempt deep in their own territory further proves the competitiveness of Mestemaker.

Kiper, like Poke’s Report, goes deeper than arm talent, size, and measureables. He goes to intelligence and feel for the game as well as future potential.

“His toolbox is also pretty incredible. I love the way he scans the field and bides his time in the pocket. Mestemaker has the big arm to make all of the throws, with 44 completions going for 20-plus yards this season (most in the FBS). But he also has the mobility to pick up nice chunks of yardage on the ground. Mestemaker shows linebacker-esque toughness and plays with a competitive edge. He doesn't turn 21 years old until January, and he has just 23 career starts to his name. So, there's a lot of untapped potential.”

That is the final paragraph of Kiper’s capsule on Mestemaker. We couldn’t agree more. Mestemaker will be on dsiplay again at noon on Saturday when Oklahoma State (5-3) visits Kansas State (4-4).
