In-Season Crazy Weight Room Conquest as Cowboy Commit Israel Hammons Prepares for Playoffs
STILLWATER – Kind of crazy as Oklahoma State walloped Kansas State on saturday afternoon 66-28 in Manhattan and while it didn’t happen today, we don’t think. Then again maybe it did. Israel Hammons, the Oklahoma State four-star linebacker commit out of Choctaw High School showed a 605 pound max lift on the squat. The bar itself is impressive, but then Hammons goes to the ground with the bar across his back and shoulders and finishes the squat. Hammons is 6-3 and weighing between 223-230 pounds.
That is a very impressive explosive lift and one that college strength coaches and college football coaches find extremely impressive. The reason I say it could have happened on Saturday (Nov. 7) is that Choctaw played on Thursday and finished their regular season with a 63-6 win at Lawton Eissnhower. Now, the Yellow Jackets, who finished 8-2 and 6-0 in district will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
The Yellow Jackets will play the winner of Putnam City North at Muskogee in a quarterfinal game they will host on Nov. 20.
It is possible the Jackets head coach Jake Corbin had his team in a lifting session on Saturday. Either way it is impressive for the linebacker that had 70 tackles, 11 sacks, and a pair of interceptions this season.
