The Commitment of Bryce Thompson Is an Important One for Oklahoma State

STILLWATER – What exactly does the commitment of Bryce Thompson to Oklahoma State mean for Mike Boynton and Co.? Well, to simply put it, it means a lot. Thompson marks the second five-star prospect Boynton and Co. has landed in the past two seasons and will most likely be a day-one starter.

While he was injured a good portion of the 2020-21 season and averaged just 4.6 points and 1.5 rebounds per 17 minutes in 20 games, Thompson was an electric scorer at Booker T. Washington in Tulsa both his junior and senior season. He averaged 24.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game his senior season, up from the 19.6 points, 5.2 assists and 4.5 rebounds a game his junior season.

Thompson brings talent, athleticism and depth to the guard position for Boynton and Co. and should be able to overcome last season’s woes and stay healthy, he has a chance of being one of the top players in the Big 12.

So, while the loss of Cade Cunningham after one season isn’t easy to overcome, the addition of Thompson will certainly go a long way in helping fill the void.

With a free year this past year due to COVID, Thompson will have at least four years pf eligibility remaining and will make a nasty backcourt combination with Avery Anderson III, Isaac Likekele and Rondel Walker next season.

Kalib Boone and Rondel Walker were both four-stars in their perspective classes and Thompson is the highest rated prospect out of Oklahoma in the past 10 years, which means Mike Boynton’s prestige in recruiting Oklahoma just keeps going up. Not only does this help recruiting in-state, but it should help the national recruiting landscape for the Pokes as well, not that Boynton’s needed any help with that.
