Oklahoma State Adds Another Transfer Portal Find in Ian Edenfield

STILLWATER – In what might be Oklahoma State’s final pickup out of the NCAA transfer portal for the time being, the Cowboys picked up a true tight end that will speed up the process of getting back to using that position in the offense.

In a move that might remind Cowboy fans of the find in wide receiver Leon Johnson III out of George Fox University, the Cowboys have gone to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference for another key contributor: Ian Edenfield out of California University of Pennsylvania.

The school was called California University of Pennsylvania from 1983-2022, the past few years in which Edenfield played. It's now known as Pennsylvania Western University.

Head coach Mike Gundy picked up former OSU offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich from Shippensburg University, also out of the PSAC.

The 6-5, 255-pound Edenfield is every bit that and he is a tough player. His dad is a wrestling coach and Edenfield finished as the runner-up at 220-pounds in the 2017 Pennsylvania State Championships. He was fifth in his senior year at 220. He was also first-team All-Conference at tight end and defensive line as a senior and was Honorable Mention All-State at tight end.

An unsung recruit, he has played and started in four games in 2022 with four receptions for 29-yard. Sharing the starting position in 2021, Edenfield finished with 18 receptions for 153-yards and a touchdown. Division II did not play in the 2020 season because of COVID. He played in nine games in 2019 with three receptions and he played in five games as a freshman in 2018. 

His strength at the position is blocking and on video he makes it look like the Vulcans are armed with an extra offensive tackle with his blocking. 

An honor roll student each year he was at Cal U of PA, he graduated with a degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis on Social Studies. He will have two seasons available after the injury last season that curtailed his season to four games. 

Edenfield makes for the 13th player that Oklahoma State has pulled out of the NCAA transfer portal in this recruiting cycle.
