Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Kelly Maxwell threw a complete-game shutout as she led the No. 3/3 Oklahoma State Softball team to a season-opening 3-0 victory over No. 24/22 Oregon at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

With the win, OSU moved to 1-0 and Oregon fell to 1-2.

Maxwell struck out 15 batters throughout the game, including seven consecutive between the fourth inning and the sixth inning. She threw 92 pitches on the night, 72 of which were strikes.

It was a pitcher's duel in the early innings as neither team could get anything going. Oklahoma State grabbed the lead in the fifth inning, when freshmen Tallen Edwards drove in freshmen Haidyn Sokoloski. A bases-loaded walk, drew from OSU newcomer Rachel Becker after a 13 pitch at-bat, scored Alabama transfer Megan Bloodworth. A sacrifice fly from senior Kiley Naomi brought in freshman Angelina Craig to give the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kiley Naomi had two hits on the night. She also drove in one run with a sac fly that gave OSU an insurance run in the fifth inning.

The win marked OSU's third consecutive victory in season openers and grew the Cowgirls lead in the series history with Oregon, 15-9.

The Cowgirls are back in action at 8:30 p.m. CT tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11, against North Carolina. The game will be streamed on FloSoftball and can be heard locally on 105.5 KGFY with Brodie Myers.
