Oklahoma State Softball Run Rules Texas A&M, 8-0
Clearwater, Fla. – Home runs from Chyenne Factor and Kiley Naomi and a complete game shutout from Kelly Maxwell led the No. 5/5 Oklahoma State softball team to an 8-0 run-rule victory over Texas A&M Thursday morning.
With the win, OSU improved to 4-1 and Texas A&M fell to 6-1.
Maxwell struck out 12 batters in her third start of the season, giving up only four hits and three walks. She moved to 3-0 with the shutout victory.
Junior Katelynn Carwile opened the scoring by drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring home senior Rachel Becker and give the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead in the first inning. It marked the fourth consecutive game in which OSU took the lead in the opening frame.
OSU notched its first five-run inning since 2021 in the fifth. Becker led off with a triple to left center, then came in to score on Naomi’s home run. Following a Carwile double and Micaela Wark base on balls, Factor blew the game wide open with a three-run shot to center.
A sacrifice fly from Morgyn Wynne scored Becker in the sixth inning to increase the Cowgirl advantage to 7-0. The game climbed into run-rule territory three at-bats later when Factor walked with the bases loaded to bring home Freshman Tallen Edwards. Factor’s four-RBI day tied her career high, previously set against Tulsa in May 2019.
With the shutout victory, OSU has shut out three of its first five opponents of the 2023 season. It’s only the second time since 2012 that the Cowgirls have completed this feat.
The Cowgirls return to action later today at 3 p.m. CT when they take on RV/RV Nebraska. All games of the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational will be televised across the ESPN networks.
