Mike Gundy Celebrates Birthday with Encore on Stage with Zach Bryan
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State staged their first real scrimmage during fall camp on Saturday, Aug. 12, although Gundy often explains his team spends a lot of time going 11-vs.-11 everyday in practice. The day started with early morning meetings and right on into the practice in the stadium followed by more meetings and extensive review of the scrimmage that will continue on Sunday in meetings on an off day from practice. When Gundy went home late afternoon on Saturday, also his birthday. there was food ready and then Kristen had a surprise with concert tickets in Tulsa for the second night of Zach Bryan’s two-night stand at the BOK Center.
Gundy has made friends over the years with Nashville radio broadcaster Storme Warren, formerly host of The Storme Warren Show on Sirius-XM’s The Highway and now hostin his show on Big615, a new station on TuneIn. That connection unlocks a lot of possibilities in country music and being well known with popular country artists. By the time the show concluded Saturday night at the BOK Center, Gundy had made his, we believe, public concert singing debut on stage with Zach Bryan and his band.
Gundy looked like he is certainly having fun. He did need some help being directed to the microphone, but then again, Gundy may have been trying to sing along and dodge the mic. Honestly, can’t say we’ve ever heard Gundy’s golden tones. He did do plenty or representing with his “pistols firing” on stage.
In fact. with combined numbers from Zach Bryan, Storme Warren, and others that posted on Twitter the stage appearance, Gundy and Oklahoma State got close to one-million people on that social media site seeing Gundy.
No doubt, there will be some coaches and players giving the head coach some grief as there are plenty of country music listeners and followers among the Oklahoma State team and staff. You have to admit, thanks to Kristen Gundy, birthday No. 56 was a memorable one for the head coach.
