Oklahoma State Offensive Review: This is Tremendously Sobering and Frustrating

STILLWATER – I’ve watched it all back, both sides of the football, and chose to start on offense. Honestly, it is the most maimed and troubled side of the ball. It is sobering where Oklahoma State offense has gone in the matter of a couple of years. Oklahoma State completed the school’s largest comeback ever two seasons ago in the Fiesta Bowl over a top 10 Notre Dame team. Last night (Sept.

It's time for Gundy to ride off into the sunset. He's past his prime and this program is going downhill. This isn't going to get better as long as he's here.

  • How about support the kids! Win, lose or draw, they are our kids and deserve the best we can give them. As for all the complaining, how would each one of the complainers on here like to have themselves critiqued as they do the coaches and the kids. I would bet a lot of money that most of the top complainers never played in a major college football game in their life and/or have never been a coach at that level. I find it interesting in the United States that we have so many people who are experts in fields where they have neither the experience nor education or to have a say. It would be about like me going to an international scientific meeting in biochemistry in which I have no training and then questioning and arguing with the scientists who are presenting papers!! Eye Roll!!

Post of the Year!!

Bravo.

"The encouraging aspect is unforced errors, drops, penalties, even turnovers can be corrected, corrected quickly."

Robert--WTH is this? The o-line holding penalties are often due to their lack of athleticism. The drops are a physical mistake. Pre-snap penalties or mental mistakes can be corrected quickly.

Is it too much to ask for the Pokes, who have been pretty damn good over the last decade, to successfully recruit ONE highly sought after HS o-lineman each year?!?!

Facts help to tell a story

Penalties 7-64. Only 1 holding penalty in the 1st HALF, on the new transfer TE, not the OLine.

QT1 - no penalties

QT2 -
PENALTY OSU Holding (Johnson, Josiah)
PENALTY OSU Chop Block declined. (I think it was called on a RB)
PENALTY OSU Offside declined. (on Defense, during XP try)

QT3 -
PENALTY OSU Holding (Brooks Jr., Jason)
PENALTY OSU Holding (Cooper, Dalton)

QT4-
PENALTY OSU Delay Of Game (1st and goal from the 9)
PENALTY OSU Holding (Michalski, Joe) Rangel in now
PENALTY OSU Holding declined (on incomplete Rangel pass to Gordon in the flat)

Wilson did not have a hold. Birmingham did not have a hold. Springfield did not have a hold.

South Bama had 4 false start penalties, we had none.

I support the kids 100% and I support coaching and coaches that give the kids an opportunity to be successful. I do not support coaches that are taking talented kids and putting them in bad situations. Also, I am criticked in my job every day by the owner of the company, clients, and co-workers. If I perform poorly for multiple years in a row I won't be in my job. They will find someone who can do what needs to be done. The only difference is that I don't make millions of dollars a year.

no... the real difference is that YOU are grading the coaches with a different set of criteria (bias) than they are graded in reality.

The coaches (all of them) are graded and evaluated annually, just like everybody else.

If they are already doing exactly what they have been asked to do, would you still fire them?

Gundy has pulled the plug on coaches many times, it's not like you're saying anything new about personnel matters, you're simply saying that those Coaches have failed your criteria... I'm not real sure what your qualifications for evaluating coaches may be, but it doesn't sound like you have any experience about what they've been asked to do, or how well they they did it.

Good thing the kids are NOT complaining and leaving in bunches after the season is over. But you guys haven't figured out why, huh? How do you know the booing wasn't for the coaches? I don't agree w/ booing of the players and I don't think it was for them...

We haven't run any new plays over 10 years. Gumby likes to keep it simple....well, problem is all coaches watch tape. They've learned we have the tendency to mostly throw passes outside. We've run one slant all season, and that'll be enough of that. I think we have two passes total to the TEs, who thinks those will total more than 30 the whole season? Jelani Woods had 31 passes at oSU in three seasons, at UVA he had 44. Likely why he made an NFL roster.

I did not say anything about booing.

IMO, booing is mostly done out of ignorance and insolence.

No, the plays called for Sanders weren't any different from what we ran 10 years ago. No trick plays, very rarely throw in the middle. Slants limited to 5~10 per season. HC is scared to throw across the middle. Rarely if ever throws to a TE. Go look up Jelani Woods stats which I posted earlier, 3 seasons w/ us compared to 1 at UVA.

we had plenty of great TEs under Gundy.

Weeden threw the slant all the time, it was his bread and butter.

HC is scared for Sanders to throw across the middle, because he was horrible at it.

Bowman threw across the middle a few times already.

TE Johnson caught 2 passes in game 1, and 2 passes on Saturday.

Coach Holgy eliminated the TE position completely, but Gundy had him put some back which we relabled Cowboy Back. Jelani had a lot of targets at OSU, he couldn't catch the dang ball. I'm glad he improved at UVA.

I agree, Dunn and Dickey need to be gone. However, Gundy's imprints are all over this offense. We need for the Admin to pressure him to bring someone in to run their offense. Holgerson and Monkey ddi their own thing, despite Gundy's meddling. If we go and hire another OC and OL coach to run Gundy's offense we are in no better shape.

Well, RodeoPoke I guess you are right. Foolish of me to think that outcomes are important. I guess tossing around a few participation trophies for Dunn and Dickey makes much more sense. It's silly of me to think that easily observable issues over the last couple of years, like offensive line play and lack of offense could be on the OL coach and the OC. Because I've never coached football it is completely unreasonable of me to expect that Gundy will hold his people accountable.

Listen friend, I'm not saying I'm an expert and not saying that I could coach these kids better. I can't. But I am more than capable of looking at this situation and understand that if we are consistently getting bad outcomes for the same reasons. Something needs to change.

I at least thought the D would adjust at the half. Guess I got spoiled with Knowles making half adjustments that worked. As far as the O, if we would just pick some starters and go with it I would feel better. I don't even care who it is.

but we're not getting bad outcomes for the same reasons are we... that is simply an opinion. Demonstrating only that you are capable of forming an opinion. Let me explain...

It was just 2 years ago (when we had an NFL caliber RB) that we were playing for in the conference championship game and beating ND in a NY bowl. That's only 1 year removed from now.

We all know that last year we had all kinds of problems, from no NFL talent to injuries (even to QB) and lack of any experienced depth.

This year Gundy changed everything around, on offense and on defense, but worse of all we had to bring in 37 new players. Unheard of. But with all those changes and new personnel, it's only been 3 games.

Clearly we have problems as a team. I'm not a Dunn fan. I'm not a Dickey die hard. I'm not a Gundy fan. I think the RB coach is flat out horrible based on my observations the past few years, but I have no objective basis for that opinion.

I never said that things do not need to change, in fact I said for a few years that we need to go back to using a FB and TE, using pulling guards, and get more bodies at the point of attack. I'm happy to see that we're trying to do that, but the results so far have not been that impressive.

We were all hoping that the Defense could carry us in a few games, but so far they haven't been much better than the offense.

A good consultant will always recommend trying something else, because if what they were doing was working they would not have hired you in the first place.

I'm simply trying to remain objective, hope for the best, and cheer the team on.

I'm a bit too long in the tooth for sour grapes and bitter pills.

I'm with you 100% on those statements.

Wonder how much rest the defense had. They had long sustained drives and we have a run for 1 yard and two incompletions. Defense was probably gassed.

well, that goes both ways, they could have all the rest that they want if they could get off the field.

remember the olden days when we use to say the defense was gassed because the offense scored too fast?

my how times have changed

Haha those were good times. Simpler times. One Qb, a line that could somewhat block, a Wr that didn't make a difference if he was covered or not he was catching it.
