STILLWATER – With 11 different players recording at least one hit and eight different players scoring at least one run, the No. 9 Oklahoma State softball team was a 10-1 winner over Utah State in five innings Saturday playing at Harrison Field on the campus of UC-Riverside in California. Across the country in Boston, Mass. Oklahoma State indoor track & field set the record books on fire Saturday at the Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston, headlined by the women’s Distance Medley Relay clocking the second-fastest time in NCAA history.
Starting the day off with a bang, the women’s DMR squad of Billah Jepkirui, Tamara Woodley, Gabija Galvydyte and Taylor Roe took command early and shattered the school record with their time of 10:47.20. The group narrowly missed the collegiate record by less than half a second and are currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA this season in the event.
Continuing the record-breaking trend in the field was Winny Bii in the Triple Jump, breaking her own school and Kenyan national record the event with her winning leap of 13.72 meters. As of today, Bii ranks No. 3 in the NCAA in the Triple Jump.
Not to be outdone, the men’s 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Caio Almeida, Jordon Smith, DJ McArthur and Justin Smith tied the school record with their time of 3:07.37. They are now tied atop the OSU leaderboard with the group that earned All-Big 12 honors at last year’s Big 12 Championships.
With the win, the Cowgirls softball team improved to 3-0. Utah State fell to 0-1. OSU returns to action later today in the Lynn Russell Miller Classic against UC Riverside with a new start time of 4 p.m. CT.
Tied at one through the first inning, OSU scored four runs in the second to create all the space it needed, highlighted by sophomore Claire Timm’s first career home run.
Sophie Page also managed to record a few firsts today with her single in the fourth inning that scored two runners. Page earned her first hit and RBI to bring the score to 9-1.
Making her first collegiate start, freshman Katie Kutz allowed just one hit in 4.2 innings and struck out five before Kathryn Ogg entered the game to get the final out.
