STILLWATER – The NCAA transfer portal officially opens today (Monday), March 18, so we’ll be keeping track of any Oklahoma State players who enter the portal following the firing of head coach Mike Boynton.

Over the weekend, Pokes Report was told by sources in the program not to be surprised if every player with remaining eligibility enters their name into the transfer portal. AD Chad Weiberg met with the team following the firing of Mike Boynton and told them OSU understands the desire to enter the portal to hear what other programs have to say. But Weiberg also told the players to at least talk with the new coach once he’s been hired and hear what he has to say before making any decision to officially leave OSU for another school.

Boynton said numerous times throughout the 2023-24 season that schools from around the country and Big 12 had reached out to players on the OSU roster to gauge their interest in transferring following the season. There’s no question those calls and messages grew exponentially following the firing of Boynton last week.

The portal officially opens March 18 and will stay open until May 1.

Brandon Garrison

William Purnell-USA TODAY Sports

The first player to enter his name into the portal is freshman center, Brandon Garrison, according to reports. The 6-11, 245-pound freshman averaged 7.5 points and 5.3 boards per game while shooting 57.2% from the field.

Garrison posted a career-high 21 points against BYU on Feb. 17 and a career-high 10-rebounds against South Carolina State on Dec. 31.

Garrison was a McDonald’s All-American following his senior season out of Del City (OK) HS.

Garrison took to Twitter just after noon CT on Monday to post his portal message.

Javon Small

According to a report from Travis Barnham, point guard Javon Small is the next to enter the portal. A transfer out of East Carolina, Small was tabbed a Big 12 honorable mention following the regular season and for good reason. He finished the year averaging 15.1 points per game on 44% shooting from the floor and 37% from 3-point range. He led the team in both shot attempts and makes (149-of-338), assists (127), points per game, minutes per game (33.0), 3-point percentage and was second on the team in steals (31).

Oklahoma State Athletics

Small missed the first game of the season and then started the following 31 games, and it would be easier to count the games he didn’t score double digits in as he recorded double figures in 24 of those 31 games, including a career-high 34 points against BYU in the final game of the regular season. Six of those 24 games, Small recorded 20 or more points.

Small took to Twitter Monday morning to say he’s not officially in the portal. So, while he’s still in the portal, it appears he’s willing to at least hear out what a new coach has to say.

All we can ask is for the players to wait and listen to what the new coach has to say. Brandon wants to be coached up to be a 1st round NBA pick so he will be looking to see what are the qualifications of is his next position coach to help him reach that goal.

Before everyone gets super disappointed, just remember that this team lost 20 games. Winning 20 games is the benchmark for a season. Abilene Christian...UCF. Quitters quit. Bye.

no it's not.... 20 would be nice, but making the Tournament is the benchmark (and advancing)

OU won 20 games and did not get invited...

No need to start pissing on our kids just because they want something better than an empty GIA

If they want to win, get better. I realize that it's not all on them. They've suffered from bad coaching. But they need to step up and improve too.

That's funny. Two people have varying definitions of success. Weird. Best part about NIL, these "kids" are not amateur athletes anymore. When you get paid, you get criticized for losing and for looking like a bunch of quitters. Embarrassing season.

How much was your NIL donation?

What mine, yours or anyone elses was is irrelevant. Some people have the money to do so, some don't. i have the money to make a decent donation to NIL. But i won't. I don't think college players should or deserve to get paid outside of their scholarship. Call it a generational thing. But they made their bed, now they get to sleep in it. Wait till they start getting fired each year they don't perform.

That's the system right now buddy. So all of you constant whiners either support the NIL of the team as best you can or stop complaining. Other schools are supporting their teams. Why can Texas Tech pay more than OSU - really? Get off your whiny approach or "won't" because you are making some bogus moral stand. Do something positive.
