Football will be considered lots of chatter out there about reducing scholarships to 85 and getting rid of walk-ons.
There is also a lot of talk that the settlement is going to come out of basketball tournament revenues as that's the only revenue the NCAA really has. So much of the non-payout stuff that has been done with that money may be getting cut to limit the loss of payouts to the D1 schools.
Per Ross Dellenger at YahooSports: "The NCAA is responsible for paying the amount over a 10-year period, roughly $277 million annually. About 60% of that will come from a reduction in distribution to its schools. The NCAA is responsible for closing the 40% gap through other means, such as reserves, other net incomes and a significant reduction in operating expenses of as much as $18 million annually."
He also says that it looks the settlement will include about 22% of each schools revenue being earmarked for student athlete compensation going forward. If handled correctly that could set forward the ability to have a CBA with the athletes and contracts that tie the athletes to the schools for multiple years. It would reset NIL to true NIL not disguised salary.
It's going to be a brave new world, and hopefully they won't do this half way and we have to do this again in 3 or 4 years.
