OSU Football Game Times: Nick Martin and Cowboys Best Get Used to Rising Early

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State and all of the Big 12 schools and Division I college football learned of at least some of their early season and national televised games kickoff times for 2024. Oklahoma State seems to inherited the networks favoritism for the early Noon (eastern) kickoff times. The Cowboys have three 11 a.m. kickoffs out of the five games that are known.

Sarah Phipps USA TODAY Sports
Mike Gundy, all coaches, and players like early kick times on the road.

The common theory at Oklahoma State has been night kickoffs for early in the season at home. Television can obviously change that. The hope on the road is to always kickoff as early as possible. The best announcement of the day for Oklahoma State football was that 11 a.m. (central) and 10 a.m. (mountain) kickoff on Black Friday at Colorado. It’s cold that time of year in Boulder and you definitely want to play during the day and not at night.

The Cowboys got their late night kick of the season with the Friday, Oct. 18 game at BYU and a 9:15 p.m.

I think Mike Gundy is likely very happy with these game times.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
With 2 games already set for Noon ABC kickoffs we should be ready for some more of those. Also a lot of 3:30 FOX games as that is going to be a Big XII game most weeks. This could be a year where we get a lot of network slots as they no longer have those two exiteers to plug in there.

I see some whining out there but the Noon slot is the premier slot for TV. And, that's where you want to be as the viewers drop off as the day goes on.

the noon slot is the EARLY slot, not the premier slot, it's 9:00 am on the West coast, and one of those is on a freaking Friday.

Most of our games (the B12) are in horrible times (as listed there) and 2nd rate channels.

ESPN has MORE SEC content to plug into the good slots, and FOX has more B1G content to plug into their limited time slots. Both networks will use our games as fodder to fill out the rest of the days games.

What are you seeing that leads you to believe our times and exposure will be improved?

Whether you want it to be or not it is THE slot. It has the most viewers and is the one that sets the pace for that channels day.

You get more airtime for that game. The preview shows spend a lot of time talking about those games. Why do you think FOX who controls who got which slot for the B1G contract chose the Noon slot? Because it's the premier slot.

It's not an opinion, and I'm not going to argue with you about it. It is easily looked up.
