Oklahoma State Announces Depth Chart for Season Opener Against South Dakota State

STILLWATER – With a little more than a week remaining before Oklahoma State’s season opener against South Dakota State, we’ve got our first look at the Cowboys’ depth chart.

There are no real surprises on the offensive side of the ball as Alan Bowman and Ollie Gordon II are the starting QB and RB. Behind Bowman, there is an [OR] battle between backup quarterbacks Garret Rangel and Zane Flores.

At running back, Sesi Vailahi is listed as the No. 2 running back. The trio of Brennan Presley, Rashod Owens and De’Zhaun Stribling are the three starting wide receivers, with Ayi Shotomide-King and Cale Cabbiness lining up behind Stribling, Gavin Freeman behind Presley and Talyn Shettron behind Owens.

The starting offensive linemen are Dalton Cooper at LT, Cole Birmingham at LG, Joe Michalski at C, Preston Wilson at RG and Jake Springfield at RT.

Collin Oliver, Nick Martin and Kendal Daniels are the listed starting linebackers, which is the first time we’ve officially seen Daniels listed at LB. DeSean Brown or Jaleel Johnson are opposite Kody Walterscheid at DE.

Both punters Hudson Kaak and Wes Pahl will punt depending on the situation, with Logan Ward listed as the starting kicker.

Love it, love it, love it

solid starters at every single position, both sides of the ball!

looking over the roster from a macro view, the DLine has me the most perplexed.

I think it's the 3 position look (DE, NT, DE), but it doesn't seen as strong with only 3 down. But if you add a NG position then that just spreads out the guys you already have listed and makes the whole bunch less deep.

I can't put my finger on it, but that position group as a whole has me a bit uneasy at this point.

If we can't get decent push from the front, then it's going to be an interesting season defensively.

My understanding is they intend to use Collin Oliver as more of a 4th lineman more than a linebacker but that could be wrong.

De'Zhaun Owens? I think you mean De'Zhaun Stribling.

yeah, but that's akin taking money from one pocket and moving it to the other pocket and claiming you came out ahead.

That would only change us from a 3-3 front to a 4-2 front, and would weaken the LB position.

That might help in some situations, but I still can't shake that feeling that the DLine over all, concerns me.

Those six players listed at DE/NG need to cover either 2 or 3 positions to move us from 3/3/5 to 4/2/5 or 4/3/4. So if Collins or Daniels rotates up, you're at 4/2/5. If you want to maintain 3 linebackers, those 6 listed have to cover 3 spots as you say.....but there are 4 or 5 more guys not listed as part of this 3 deep depth chart. I assume some of them are still around and may still play some. (Dean, Ojo, Ozeigbo, Ridener, Foreman.) Having said that, DL/DE compared to OL certainly seems to be where two injuries or so really affect the quality quickly.
