Matchups and Predictions: Can Oklahoma State Wake Up in Provo vs. Unbeaten Cougars?

STILLWATER – How many times have we pinned our hopes over the last two weeks on Mike Gundy’s record as a head coach with either more than one week of preparation, which is 46-17, or his record coming off an in-season bye week and that is 16-9 and 15-5 in the past 15 seasons. Here is the bottom line. Forget any rumors you heard from somebody that read them on social media or any rumors you read on social media. It doesn’t matter who starts at quarterback.

It would be great if the score you predicted for OSU-BYU turns out that way but I just don't have much confidence we can get a win out in Provo!!!

after the way we played them last year in an OT game, I don't have much hope that this version of the Cowboy team can keep within 3 scores.

We have to get better blocking by the TE and FB at the point of attack, and better plays to overload the line and at least have the RB get a glimpse of the secondary.

When what they are doing isn't working, always recommend something else.

We're a bad football team this season. Poorly coached. We will probably get rolled in Provo. Sad state of affairs when you consider the optimism going into the start of the season.

bleh.... we're not "bad", we just happen to have played 3 of the best teams in the conference, narrowly losing to Utah. We beat Arkansas and the D1AA defending champion, and slaughtered Tulsa.

We're 3-3 for gosh sakes, with great possibility to improve on our record the remainder of the season.

you know this is correct.

BYU? That's a tough game, as it was last year.

We're not winning the TO battles, and a few other key indicators that really differentiate this year from last.

I think there's a solid chance our bowl game streak snaps this season. We are not good. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Unless Gundy realizes the wholesale changes that need to happen with his program, 2025 could be even uglier.

I think Utah has since proven to not be as good as they were made out to be, Tulsa absolutely stinks, Arkansas was a nice win, but they blew that game more than we won it. So I don't think those are good benchmarks.

I'd agree with you that this team has the talent to be better than they've shown, but to this point the only way to characterize this team is "bad."

it certainly does not help that 4 of our last 6 games are on the road.

Can't win if you can't score. Tough to score when the defense knows what you can and cannot do. We apparently lack the skill (or haven't put the skill on the field) at multiple positions that would otherwise allow us to exploit opposing defenses.

Don't think play calling or game plans are the biggest issue. Best play calls and game plans in the world wouldn't give New Mexico a prayer against Georgia. Just sayin

My point remains so. Our coaches haven't forgotten how to call plays or develop game plans that exploit defenses, we simply don't have the skill to execute consistently.

or a good coach like Saben or Urban Meyer would find plays/schemes that would work with the personnel on hand.

The skill and talent of our players simply did not just disappear since last year, we were supposed to be deeper/better.

so... personally, I'm going with the coaches to take the heat

You're probably right. After all, didn't a famous coach once say something like "it's not the jimmies and joes, but the X's and O's that wins games".

Oh, wait….

This coaching staff recruited all the players sans Randolph who are playing!

OSU is ranked 127 in rushing the ball! We off set that by being ranked 131 in rushing defense! Lordy!

If the Oline shows up (given all that Rob Glass strength training), we can get 0 running the ball some, we win the TO battle and have a few big ST plays, maybe magic could happen but that's a lot to ask!

yeah, there are lots of cute sayings out there.

I heard one about a famous coach... it was said that coach you switch players with you and then beat you with your own team.

... good one.
