It Didn't Take Long for Oklahoma State to Find Another Linebacker with Trip White

STILLWATER – It didn’t take long for Oklahoma State to recoup the loss earlier this week of linebacker Jeff Roberson, the starter for most of this season, decided on Monday to go into the transfer portal as a graduate and eventually committed to Minnesota. The Cowboys found their new linebacker in the transfer portal out of the SEC and it’s a player that they recruited out of high school as a safety. Trip White is originally out of Little Rock (Parkview), Ark. where he played quarterback and safety and helped lead Parkview to the Arkansas Class 6A semifinals his senior season and earned All-State honors in Class 6A.

Oklahoma State recruited White aggressively as did Arkansas, Utah, and Baylor among others. It was Mississippi that got his commitment. White is now 6-3, 220 pounds and has lettered two seasons for the Rebels playing primarily on special teams. He will be a redshirt junior heading to Stillwater.

This past season he played in all 13 games and on nearly every special team snap. He played linebacker in the games with Furman and Georgia Southern and finished with one tackle. He entered the transfer portal on Dec. 18, but he stayed with the team and continued to practice until Mississippi completed their season with a win over Duke in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville on Jan. 2. White played in the bowl win.

In 2023, as a redshirt freshman, he played in five games with no statistics.

White (30) lined up against Georgia Tech.

His true freshman season in 2022, White lettered right out of the game and played a lot of football in just three games before the decision was made to redshirt him. He had his career high four tackles against Georgia Tech and finished the season with eight total tackles.

White was a top 15 recruit according to multiple sources in the state of Arkansas. He played defense primarily as a junior and was a team captain as both a junior and senior. That junior season he finished with 59 tackles, 5 tackles-for-loss, 2 interceptions, 2 fumbles forced, two fumbles recovered, 8 passes defended, and two blocked punts. His senior season he played mostly quarterback completing 125-of-186 passing for 2,035-yards. He threw for 19 touchdowns, but he also ran for 445-yards and 7 touchdowns.

Aat Mississippi, he has been on the Dean’s Honor Roll, the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, and he has twice made the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

One tackle in two games he started? Must have played in a really limited role.

they probably saw that he was in there and were intentionally running plays to the other side.... (wink)

It's hard for an old fan like me to feel like this is OSU's team since it's a collection of players that may very well just have no better choices and may feel it's a one and done commitment. But having said that, it will at least be interesting to see what we've got next fall. There's enough intrigue to renew my tickets at least! I just always preferred OSU football over pro football. Now it's a blend.

This years Big XII conference champion, Arizona State was coming off a 3-9 season in 2023 and brought in over 40 players to the 2024 squad and basically remade their entire roster!!!

I the Big12 or any league, the teams with the best QBs are going to be near the top...

I'm not convinced that we're in that sort of a position, but I'm hoping.

College football is in disarray. No more school loyalty for many. Just jumping from job to job. Is that what they are going to do when they hit the real world. Every year just go somewhere else. It's a joke.
