Complete Super Regional Schedule Set and Cowgirls Looking Strong

STILLWATER – The game times were released earlier on Monday and now we can clearly see the layout for the remaining competition to get to Oklahoma City and the Division I Women’s College World Series.

Before Oklahoma State fans complain about having a conference rival as an opponent in the Super Regional they need to look around as there are two SEC vs. SEC Super Regionals with Alabama hosting Kentucky in Tuscaloosa and Florida hosting Georgia in a softball version of the “World’s Largest Cocktail Party.” I know they don’t like for that moniker to be used anymore, but hey, I don’t cover the SEC.

Oklahoma State Athletics
Game winning play in 10 innings vs. Texas in the Big 12 Tournament.

Oklahoma State doesn’t need to complain as they will be at home and that is a different venue from this season for the Cowgirls and Longhorns and Oklahoma State has already disposed of Texas four straight this season. That last win, 3-2 in 10 innings on a walk-off wild pitch on a third strike where Texas catcher Mary Iakopo threw the ball past first base and into the right field corner as the Cowgirls Karli Petty scored from first base to close out the game, may have put Oklahoma State in Texas’ head.

Just in case, Cowgirls head coach Kenny Gajewski wants to make sure his fans take full advantage of giving his team home field advantage.

“I need every one of our season ticket holders to get in touch with the ticket office and either get their tickets for the Super Regional or if they can’t make it, make sure that other Cowgirls fans can get those tickets,” Gajewski said on the radio Monday. “I’m really happy we are playing this at home. We play well at home.”

They do indeed as the Cowboys are 21-4 at home inside that overall record for 45-9. They outscored the three opponents in the Regional this weekend 29-5. In Austin, the Cowboys swept Texas and outscored them 14-6 in McCombs Field.

“I know it’s tough to beat a team the more times that you play them. They are a good team,” Gajewski said, but we are a good team. We are playing very good right now. We played really well this weekend. I told our girls we just need to play to our standard, play like us. We play like us then I feel like we’ll be fine. We don’t play like us and then we’ll have to scramble.”

I’m predicting that the Cowgirls will play to their standard and will advance on to the Women’s College World Series. Here are the predictions on the other seven teams that will make their reservations for Oklahoma City this Memorial Day weekend.

1.       Oklahoma

2.       UCLA

3.       Alabama

4.       Florida

5.       Oklahoma State

          Arizona

7.       LSU
