No. 21 Oklahoma State has completed the upset of No. 1 Oklahoma. The Cowgirls beat the Sooners 6-4 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 28-11 overall on the season. It marked the Cowgirls’ first win over a No. 1 team since they beat the Sooners in the Big 12 championship game in 2022.
Ruby Meylan threw all 133 pitches for the Pokes. She recorded nine strikeouts and one walk, while giving up seven hits and four runs, just two of them earned. She has now been the winning pitcher in the last 14 OSU wins and is 18-6 overall on the season.
The Cowgirls got the scoring started as Tia Warsop hit an RBI double into right center field to score Libby Jaques from second. It came on the ninth pitch of the at-bat. Warsop finished the game going 2-for-3 from the plate with two doubles and two RBI.
The Sooners took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run homer from freshman Kendall Wells.
The Cowgirls really turned up the pressure as they scored in the third, fourth and fifth innings to go up 5-2.
The Sooners answered in the top of the sixth inning with two runs. The scoring started with an error by Karli Godwin when a ground ball got through to right field from Ailana Agbayani.
Agbayani scored from second and Allyssa Parker from first following a double to left field by Abby Dayton to make it 5-4 Cowgirls.
But the Pokes were not done as Godwin got one of the runs back. She scored from second base following a single by Lexi McDonald to make it 6-4.
Meylan was excellent in the top of the seventh inning. She recorded two ground outs and one strikeout, that being the freshman phenom Wells.
The Cowgirls are back in action this weekend as they’re set to host Arizona.
