STILLWATER – He wasn’t on our pre camp Oklahoma State superlatives of fastest, strongest, most explosive Cowboys, but thanks to his teammates Pokes Report got that fixed as the 6-5, 209 pound transfer from Illinois is a 4.3 guy in the forty. That’s exceptional. His statistics at Illinois were modest, but really good in the red zone.
The Athletic and Bruce Feldman, who does his annual “Freaks List” of college football players, has Bowick right there at No. 66.
No. 66: Justin Bowick, Oklahoma State, WR
New coach Eric Morris added a lot of talented newcomers, most from his former North Texas program, but Bowick comes from Illinois, where he made 22 catches for 265 yards and five TDs last year. The 6-5, 209-pound senior, who began his college career at Eastern Illinois, back squatted over 500 pounds this offseason, topped 22 mph on the GPS and clocked a 1.36-second 10-yard split. Don’t be surprised if Bowick puts up big numbers on the field. Jaleel Johnson, a 6-4, 275-pound D-lineman who power cleaned 365 and topped 20 mph on the GPS, and Shaun Torgeson, a 6-4, 302-pound O-line transfer from Portland State who bench pressed over 500 pounds and broad jumped more than 9 feet, also merited strong consideration.
I would contend that you might want to consider Malik Charles for that list as well. The strength coaches believe that he is one of, if not the strongest of the Cowboys. He is a true 6-3, 300 pounds by his own admission. He also told me that in a forty, he would clock somewhere in the 4.8 range. That is freaky.
