Jenks' Odaefe Oruru as Pokes Report Predicted Has Flipped from Arkansas to Oklahoma State
STILLWATER – There was a reason we went to Jenks in the early summer to sit down and talk with Jenks offensive guard Odaefe Oruru. Pokes Report had a feeling that even though he was committed to Arkansas that he was still open to Oklahoma State. We suggested after that visit that there was a good chance that the 6-6, 310 pounder would eventually flip and commit to the Cowboys.
On the eve of his first game of his senior season in a high profile matchup on the road in Texas at perennial North Texas powerhouse Southlake Carroll, Oruru has made that flip happen.
Originally recruited by dozens of Division I schools, Oruru is a dominating blocker whether driving in the run game or staying agile and blocking pass protection. His teammate from his junior season in current Oklahoma State running back KD Jones bragged about running behind the massive Oruru.
“Big “Oda” can blow some defenders up and at the same time I could kind of hide behind big 79 and then break out,” Jones told me.
Oruru said he was confident in the backs for Jenks this season, but he missed blocking for KD.
“Man, I wish, KD was one of a kind,” Oruru kind of lamented not having the elusive speedster.
When we visited with Oruru at Jenks, he also told me that he would visit Arkansas officially in the summer, which he did, but that he would also keep his visit to Oklahoma State. He also did that. The dead period in recruiting is still on until Sept. 1 except for prospects going to zero week games, which neither Oklahoma State or Arkansas have. Oruru is locked in to the game on Thursday night at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas against Southlake Carroll.
What was his thought on Oklahoma State this summer?
“Yes, proximity top home, family is a big part like I said,” the big tackle for the Trojans said of Oklahoma State. “My family means a lot to me and for them only to be an hour away that is cool. My family could come see me all the time.”
In his commitment text he wrote, “At the end of the day I wanted to play for my state. I’m staying home and I’m ready to be a Cowboy.”
He also added that the Oklahoma State coaching staff was solid with him. He very much liked head coach Eric Morris and offensive line coach Cody Crill.
Bottom line Oklahoma State kept pushing and they end up with a major score. Oruru becomes the 12th commitment in the class for Oklahoma State. We said their would be 12-or-13 by the opening kickoff and this gets the Cowboys there. He is the third offensive linemen commit joining Jake Baker and Sonny Mullen. Oruru is the fourth instate commitment joining Bryson Brown (Saf) from Broken Arrow, Cooper Hooker (WR) from Pryor, and Choctaw linebacker Israel Hammons.
