Oklahoma State Jumps to "29th" Following Upset Win Over No. 6 Oregon

STILLWATER – There were some pretty big wins across college football this weekend, but none of them came anywhere close to Oklahoma State’s 39-31 upset of No. 6 Oregon. It shocked everyone across the sports world and the AP voters took notice with the Cowboys jumping all the way to No. 29 with votes received, while Oregon dropped to No. 21. 

The Cowboys weren’t even receiving votes following the 24-10 loss to Tulsa last week. 

The win over the Ducks snapped a 21-game FBS losing streak and ended a 12-game losing streak dating back, ironically enough, to the 69-3 drubbing from Oregon on Sept. 6, 2025. 

Was this biggest win in program history? Like with most wins, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I certainly believe it belongs in the conversation as the Cowboys hadn’t won a game against an FBS team since they beat Tulsa 45-10 back in 2024. And while Oregon isn’t a conference opponent, the Cowboys have lost 18-straight Big 12 games.

You can look at the win over OU in 2011 to win the Big 12 title, wins over OU in 2021 and 2023, the wins over Texas in 2021 and 2022, the win over Notre Dame in 2021 or maybe even Stanford in 2011. You could certainly look at even of the upsets in the 2018 season. But based on the past two seasons of losses, regardless of team, especially the loss to Tulsa last week, makes me think the win over No. 6 Oregon, regardless of how Oregon plays the rest of the season, puts this one in the top 3 for sure.
