Three-Headed Monster: Drew Mestemaker, Caleb Hawkins and Wyatt Young Ball Out Against WVU

Oklahoma State’s three-headed monster of Drew Mestemaker, Caleb Hawkins and Wyatt Young balled out last night in the 41-24 road win over West Virginia. The win snapped a 19-game Big 12 losing streak, which spanned 1,036 days. Hostile environment, on the road in conference play for the first time and battled back from a deficit in the first half.

 It’s a given Mestemaker led in passing yards as he went 20-of-27 for 389 yards with three touchdowns and one pick. Hawkins had 31 carries for 180 yards and one touchdown, while Young had eight catches for 192 yards and one touchdown.

I understand the Big 12 Conference doesn’t want to give the Players of the Week awards out to the same players every week. But I think the conference is going to have a hard time not putting this trio in the mix after every single game. Through four games, all three is within the top 10 nationally. Mestemaker is fourth in the country with 1,421 yards and tied for fourth with 11 passing touchdowns. 

Hawkins is No. 7 in the country with 441 rushing yards on 83 carries, despite having just two rushing touchdowns, while Young is No. 10 in receiving yards with 410. He’s tied for fifth in receiving touchdowns.

Tulsa game aside, the three-headed monster of Mestemaker, Hawkins and Young has been three of the best football players in the country.
