STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s offense was electric in the 57-24 win over Colorado on Saturday night as the Pokes put up nearly 600 yards of total offense. They outscored the Buffs 34-0 in the season half thanks in part to a three-turnover performance by the defense. However, the juice in the first half came from an unlikely source: kicker Sam Keltner.

I won’t hear any kicker slander after tonight as Keltner is now responsible for three wins this season for the Pokes with Oregon and West Virginia being the other two. The Cowboys struggled a bit to get into the end zone in the first half. Drew Mestemaker threw two touchdown passes, but it was Keltner who kept the Pokes in the game with three first-half field goals because of the lack of red zone offense.

Instead of going into the break down at least 14 points, if not more, it was a 24-23 going into the break.

“He's a professional in everything he does. It’s like the way he prepares; he's one of the guys,” Eric Morris said. “Some teams I've been a part of kickers and specialists are kind of their own little posse. They kind of hang with themselves. That's not the case here. Sam's one of the guys, just like all the rest of our guys are. He practices his tail off and goes out there and executes his job. I’m proud of him. He’s definitely a weapon for us.”

For his efforts, Keltner finished the game going 5-for-5 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points, matching the school record for made field goals in a game, extended his season streak to 18-straight makes, tying the school record set by Matt Ammendola.

His 18-straight makes does, however, break the school record for most makes to start a season, which was set by Dan Bailey.

“It's been awesome,” Sam Keltner said. “I couldn't really have drawn it up any better, and I'm confident right now. I'd say a lot of that's due to my holder, snapper and the guys up front. I mean, they've been phenomenal all year.”

Despite the hot start, Keltner said he doesn’t/hasn’t really felt any pressure to make kicks and keep the streak alive.

“Not really,” Keltner said. “I mean, every kick feels pretty similar to me. Of course, like there's the ones that are game-time, game-winning; you feel those; those matter, right? But outside of that, they really all feel the same. And I put it on myself to the same ball every time. Mentally, I try to treat an extra point the same as everything else.”

Keltner will get a chance to continue his streak next week as the Cowboys head up to Ames, AI for a Halloween night showdown against Iowa State.
