Game Flow
- Iowa State led for most of the game, but Oklahoma State erased a 10-point second-half deficit to take a 49-48 lead with 53 seconds remaining. Wyatt Young scored the go-ahead touchdown for OSU, but was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play, which forced the Cowboys to kick off from their own 20-yard line. After one offensive play – a 33-yard completion from Jaylen Raynor to Jamal Polite – the Cyclones were immediately in field goal range. Three rushes up the middle allowed Iowa State to run the clock down to two seconds remaining. Kyle Konrardy converted a 34-yard field goal attempt with no time left to win the game.
- Injuries were an issue for the Oklahoma State defense Saturday, with defensive end Jaleel Johnson exiting the game early in the first quarter and not returning. Linebacker Tate Romney also exited the game early and did not return.
Key Stats
- Iowa State scored 10 points on a pair of stolen possessions in the second quarter.
- The Cyclones recovered an onside kick and recovered a muffed punt. The onside kick recovery led to a touchdown and the muffed punt recovery led to a field goal.
- Those two recoveries made it so Oklahoma State had only one offensive possession in the second quarter.
- Iowa State averaged 6.5 points and 210.5 yards of total offense in its last two contests. The Cyclones erupted for 51 points and 581 yards on Saturday. Iowa State averaged 8.1 yards per offensive snap.
- The two teams combined for 100 points and 1,114 yards of offense – making Saturday’s game one of the most explosive offensive showings in college football this season.
- The two teams combined for six offensive touchdowns of 40 yards or longer.
