Cowgirl Soccer Battles No. 15 Texas A&M To Draw
STILLWATER - Oklahoma State returned to Neal Patterson Stadium Sunday afternoon to take on the team that knocked the Cowgirls out of last season's NCAA Soccer Championship in the Sweet 16, and 110 minutes could not decide winner as the Cowgirls battled 15th-ranked Texas A&M to a 1-1 draw.
With the tie, the Cowgirls' record stands at 3-3-1 on the season, while TAMU is now 4-2-1.
Hannah Webb tallied the OSU goal against the Aggies, while freshman goalie Evie Vitali posted a career-high six saves.
The Aggies took an early lead with a goal in the 13th minute as Maile Hayes delivered a long blast to the far post to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
OSU spent most of the remainder of regulation trying to get even and finally did so with just 3:57 remaining.
After Olyvia Dowell found Gabriella Coleman on a push down the right side, Coleman sent a cross into the box and Webb was there for a header that took a large bounce off the ground and over the line for the equalizer.
Webb's goal was her first of the season and second of her career, while Coleman and Dowell each recorded their first assist of the year.
In extra time, TAMU outshot the Cowgirls by a 5-2 margin, with Vitali making a pair of clutch saves in the second overtime. The first of those came in the 107th minute, with Vitali ranging to her right before diving to deflect a Hayes header.
The Cowgirls will look to get back into the win column Friday when they will host Omaha at Neal Patterson Stadium at 7 p.m.
