I think that is a fair statement, regardless of what happens in the Tulsa/Ohio State game... I mean comparing how OSU did against Tulsa, versus how Ohio State did against Tulsa, leaves me scratching my head in bewilderment.

Their WR Shakir is excellent, and he played at Vista Murrieta, while their QB Hank Bachmeier played at the cross-town rival Murrieta Valley, so they knew each other before they ended up at Boise. Quite the combination together.

(FWIW - my work colleague's son is the RB this year at Vista Murrieta) basically a suburb of Temecula.

I think that our defense is just good enough to keep them working hard for points, and I think our offense is just good enough to keep us in the game.

We should be able to pull off a win.... at least I'm hoping so. Sanders is going to need to get more than 175 yards passing this week to pull it off though.

as an add-on comment....

Murrieta and Temecula and some other nearby sprouting communities are pretty much a boom area for growth, about halfway between the Eastern LA metropolitan area (Riverside/San Bernardino) and San Diego - on I15.

I only mention it because as with most boom areas, they generally consist of younger couples with lots of kids, looking for opportunity and cheaper housing. Growing communities with lots of kids, generally means good sports teams (at least in most metro areas I'm familiar with - sort of like Tulsa back in the day, when Memorial and Edison were good, then it moved further out to Jenks and Union and now even Owasso and Bixby)

Vista Murrieta is only one of several high schools in that area (I think there are 5 there now), and they have so many kids go out for football that they have the varsity and JV teams... and the JV teams have so many going out that many do not make it. My buddy said MV had over 85 show up to tryout for the JV team.

The Bachmeier kid was #25 on the 10,000 yard QB passing list that I posted yesterday (for comparison, Rudolph and Rattler were much lower on the list).

The kid has his limitations, or he would be QB at a different school, but he is very accurate... if the Boise OLine gives him some protection from our rush, it's going to make it an interesting game.

Bachmeier was just average (68 QBR) against the UCF defense. Expect same or worse against a better OSU defense. Putting up numbers against a bottom-10 UTEP is next to meaningless.

oh my, now it's on to bashing competitors? Here's a hot tip - use a 2-game sample to make projections, instead of the body of work. (right?)

I don't know how good Bachmeier may or may not be, and I am not one to pass judgement or cast dispersions.... however other objective information shows he beat out former USC QB 4-star Jack Sears for the start, and the OSU blog site PFF lists the Boise QB situation #45 on their power ratings, and OSU's Sanders at #65 (preseason)

Most importantly, Bachmeier doesn't turn it over often... so that might be something to keep an eye on.

IMO, background "color" information like this is useful for adding entertainment value to the viewing. It helps give our fans a sense of what we may be up against, and what to look for - especially for opponents that we don't see often (as opposed to say conference foes Skylar Thompson, Spencer Rattler, etc., who our fans are likely familiar with)

FYI - Bachmeiers game against UCF was his career best against a team considered to be Too-50ish. His stats are inflated by games against nobodies.

Sanders at least has examples of good games against good opponents.

I wasn't bashing Sanders, I was providing context to your attempts to bash our opponent. I did post that Sanders QB rating was less than their QB.. AND THEN, I said that information was WORTH NOTHING.

Saying that a stupid low rating is meaningless, it IS NOT BASHING - it is closer to a supporting statement.

In 15 career games against below average competition, Bachmeiers passer rating is 142.

In 22 career games against average to good competition, Sanders passer rating is 143.

Good call, Bachmeier was average to below average (QBR 58) facing a good defense. Career 1-3 vs P5 quality defenses.

I'm not sure what game you watched.... Bachmeier did not lose that game for them...

how about those quarterback rating numbers, can you tell us what they were?

Just as I indicated, their QB and WR were going to give us fits if their OLine could give them protection. We started doubling Shakir and getting more pressure on Bachmeier and our fortunes turned aroud.

Robert was spot on that the Tulsa defensive front was more stout than Boise's and Warren was able to take advantage of the gaps being created.

I expected the same or worse (compared to UCF) out of Bachmeier. That's it. After 3 separate posts with the same words, it magically says the same thing.

What was unsaid but perhaps implied was that if Bachmeier was average to below average, we'd have a decent chance at victory.
