Webber Gets the New Recruiting Attraction at Oklahoma State, Ride Bullet

That was a very cool feature to an "official" - I certainly didn't expect it, but I think it should be an opportunity extended to future visitors. At least until one of them gets thrown.... :/

Stables normally don't want riders over 230 lbs. to protect the horse's back. I'm not a vet or horse specialist, but hope somebody knows what's appropriate happening here as these are some huge guys.

we should certainly ensure that Bullet is protected, but the stable across the street from me only has horses whose backs were wrecked decades ago.... LOL

I'm sure lots of folks I see riding out are well over 230.... I'll ask Sonjia next time I see her.... although she recently acquired some big draft horses supposedly retired from Amish farming.

don't they keep it over at the equestrian area during the season? I think they do... not sure though.

since 2005.... I have not been back for a long time... This is the part I was thinking about..... but the Cunningham's do bring Bullet to the OSU on game day, as mentioned.

Game days for the Spirit Rider start at least three hours before kickoff. The rider and the ground crew meet at the horse barn to brush and dress the horse. (I thought he/she stayed there if successive home game weekends, but apparently not) They then travel to the Seretean Center for the Spirit Walk.

After the walk, the rider and horse return to the Edmon Low Library to lead the band to the field. Forty-five minutes before game time, the Spirit Rider and the band march to Boone Pickens Stadium to make their grand entrance.

There is a lot of work and care that goes on behind the scenes to keep the tradition alive.

Jennifer and Ty Cunningham, both former Spirit Riders, care for Bullet at their ranch in Tulsa. In 2005, the Cunninghams became the full-time caretakers of Bullet.

"I feel like that horse represents a cowboy very well," Jennifer Cunningham said. "We're passionate about keeping (the tradition) alive so other students have the opportunity to be part of that. We take a lot of pride in that being our alma mater and we don't want to ever see that tradition come to an end."

The Cunninghams, along with their three daughters, have taken in Bullet as part of their family. Their girls help with the daily care such as cleaning his stall, feeding him and bathing him. Each game day they are responsible for transporting Bullet to OSU and also distribute Bullet trading cards to the fans.
"It truly is an entire family affair," she said. "Our entire fall is planned around football games."

Interesting area this recruit hails. Lots of good discussion about bullet but that horse is not bullet. RA mentioned on a chat that it would be an ncaa violation for a recruit to ride bullet.

It didn't look right first pic I saw. Bullet has one blaze on his head between and just above his eyes.

I was thinking that Bullet was darker... almost pitchblack... but then I don't know how many Bullets we've gone through over the years.... many, I'm sure.

I think what had the discussion about Bullet going was Robert's statement in this very thread/article....
