Redshirt-Freshman Offensive Lineman Monroe Mills Enters Transfer Portal
Oklahoma State learned it would have another player entering the transfer portal today as redshirt freshman offensive lineman Monroe Mills was reported to enter the portal. He is the second offensive lineman enter the portal after Hunter Anthony, who is going to Nebraska.
Mills is originally from the class of 2020 but was never able to carve out any playing time in his two years. His freshman year was derailed by a knee injury in his senior season of high school. He spent time of his freshman year rehabbing and getting back to strength.
Based on depth at his position and the talent in front of him, there was no clear path to playing time for him in the future. Mills will look for a new school with a clearer path to the field.
Some fans might not see players entering the portal but some of these portal entries are somewhat needed. Because of the super seniors accounting for scholarships, spots are being needed to open up to allow newcomers onto the roster such as the 2022 signees and possible incoming transfers.
This will most likely not be the last of the Cowboys entering the portal, in fact there may be several more. In most of these cases, it is just a situation of players not having a clear path or future to playing time.
Pokes Report will continue to monitor developments in the transfer portal, both with players leaving but also coming.
The Cowboys staff has done a good job of using the portal to fill immediate needs and turning them into major contributors.
