Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From Texas State Transfer Caleb Asberry

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State has just landed its third transfer commitment this spring, and its second in as many days. Texas State transfer guard Caleb Asberry took to Twitter Tuesday afternoon to make the announcement official.

Since entering the portal, a number of schools had inquired and were in on Asberry, including Georgetown, UTSA, Loyola-Chicago, Mississippi, Wichita State, Wyoming, Western Kentucky, Texas and Tulsa.

Asberry adds to the commitment of Louisiana-Monroe wing Russell Harrison and High Point guard John-Michael Wright, a potential commitment Pokes Report's Robert Allen wrote could happen just a few hours before it happened

Asberry, a 6-3, 170-pound senior guard originally out of Pflugerville, TX, and Ranger College before Texas State, averaged 13.6 points and 4.5 rebounds a game this past season. He dropped a season-high 26-points against Troy towards the end of the regular season, going a perfect six-for-six beyond the 3-point line.

On the season, Asberry shot 43.3% from the field and 39% from 3-point range, making 63 of 163 3-point shots. He also shot 82% from the free throw line and dished out 2.1 assists per game.

Following the 2021-22 season, Asberry was tabbed First Team All-Sun Belt, while also earning a Second Team nod for the NABC All-District team. He also earned NABC Second Team status following the 2020-21 season as well.

With the addition of Asberry, the Cowboys are now up to 11 total scholarships, including transfers and incoming freshman, Quion Williams. Should guard Avery Anderson III decide to return to school, it would put the Pokes at 12.

However, with the scholarship reductions the Pokes are facing, it’s likely they’ll only use 12 this upcoming season.

welcome aboard.

So we're done?

that makes the team almost entirely Juniors and Seniors, with one Freshman. Interesting.

We haven't had a "mature team" for a while.... that could help

Depending on if Avery decides to return, I would imagine they're done with this class. Should Avery return, that gets them to 12 scholarships, which is what I'd imagine they'd do because of the NCAA penalty. Should be a rather mature team, just hope they can put it all together because there's certainly going to be talent and athleticism on this roster.
