IMO, all of these silly scenarios are simply just more feckless fodder.

It makes little difference if teams are in divisions and don't play each other, or if they are all lumped together and don't play each other..... if the teams don't play the same schedule, then you can't predict or guarantee that the "two best" conference teams are playing in the champ game.

If conferences are not going to use a rotating pod scenario to add some random basis to it, then they need to implement a NFL style scheduling where the top teams play the other top teams, and the weaker teams get an easier schedule. The conferences need to at a minimum make an effort to ensure that the top teams are playing equal caliber opponents leading up to selection to the conf champ game.
