Report: Oklahoma State Set to Host Two In-State Prospects

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State and Mike Boynton are set to host two of the top in-state prospects in the 2023 class.

According to a report from Marshall Scott of Pistols Firing, the Cowboys will host Del City’s Brandon Garrison and Tulsa Union’s Trent Pierce this weekend.

Since publishing this article, Pokes Report has learned that both Garrison and Pierce are on official visits.

This news comes just a few days after four-star Bixby shooting guard, Parker Friedrichsen, decommitted from the Pokes.

Both Garrison and Pierce are ranked as four-star prospects in the 2023 class, with Garrison checking in at No. 56 in the class and Pierce No. 116 according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Garrison is listed as the No. 1 overall prospect out of Oklahoma, while Pierce checks in at No. 2.

Garrison, who checks in at 6-9, 205-pounds and is listed as a center, currently holds 11 offers up to this point in his recruiting cycle, including Arkansas, Houston, Kansas, OU, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech among others.

Pierce, who checks in at 6-8, 180-pounds and is listed as a small forward, currently holds eight offers up to this point in his recruiting cycle, including Kansas State, Loyola Chicago, Minnesota, OU and Texas Tech among others.

Both Garrison and Pierce play for the same AAU team, Team Griffin on Nike’s EYBL circuit, and both have had really solid springs. Garrison is averaging 12.8 points and seven rebounds through eight games this spring, while shooting an impressive 62% from the field.

Since taking over the program, Mike Boynton and Co. have had a lot of success recruiting the state of Oklahoma, which includes five star Bryce Thompson out of the transfer portal, four stars Kalib Boone and Rondel Walker out of high school and three star Keylan Boone, all four of which were among the top players in their respective classes.

So, the additions of either Garrison or Pierce, or both, would be huge gets for the Pokes and further bolster the Pokes’ standing in Oklahoma high school basketball.

Zach, I love you to death man, but you just can't get away with making silly statements like this...

Coach Boynton has a HORRIBLE record of recruiting in-State kids since he arrived. 3 in six classes, and only KA-Boom is still on the roster? He got the Boones in 2019 and Walker in 2020, and THAT'S IT for State of Oklahoma recruiting. Thompson went to KU. Self beat Boynton out for that kid. IN STATE.

We have ONE in-State recruited HS kid on the roster since Boynton has been here. ONE. (and Thompson transferred in, due to Cade's success)

2017 None
2018 None
2019 two (Boones)
2020 one (Walker)
2021 None
2022 None

Oklahoma does not always have many top rated kids, so that is a factor
2017 only had 2 above 3-star (Trea Young and Brady Manik)
2018 had not OK kids rated higher than 3-star
2019 had no OK kids rated higher than 3-star (looking at 24x7 rankings, Kalib was 3-star)
2020 we got #3 Walker, but 5-star Thompson went to KU and 4-star Jaxon Robinson went to A$M
2021 4-star Trey Alexander went to Creighton
2022 had no OK kids rater higher than 3-star

2023 had FOUR 4-star kids in OK, maybe our luck can change next year, but one of those 4 already decommitted from OSU.

I'll cross my fingers and hope we can get somebody high-rated from OK, but our track record is not that good.

(I skipped the 3-star kids because there were several, but only Ke-Boone signed with OSU, some 3-stars went to OU, or KSU or other places, so that didn't seem to me like we were in a competition at that level of player)

Garrison seems to have some really soft hands around the basket. That is what we need.
