Oklahoma State has another USA FIBA gold medal to add to its history books as USA Basketball rolled through the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship with Mike Boynton as one of its assistant coaches. Team USA beat Brazil 102-60 in the title game, marking the sixth-straight gold medal for the USA at the U18 Championships.

This marked Boynton’s second stint with USA Basketball as he was chosen as a court coach on Jamie Dixon’s staff for the U19 FIBA World Cup in 2021.

Prior to this year’s gold medal, there have been five Cowboy basketball players to win gold with USA Basketball: both Isaac Likekele and Cade Cunningham won gold at the U19 FIBA World Cup in 2019, Jawun Evans in 2015, Marcus Smart in 2013 and Matt Clark in 1979.

Boynton, along with Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd and Boise State head coach Leon Rice, served under Colorado head coach Tad Boyle, coaching several talented college and high school prospects, which included 2023 center out of Del City, OK, Brandon Garrison.

Garrison averaged 6.0 points per game off the bench according to FIBA stats, but he shot an impressive 81% from the field in the event.

Garrison is one of the top targets for Boynton and Co., checking in as the No. 60th overall prospect in the 2023 class, with the Cowboys competing with several other programs to land his services: Arkansas, Kansas, OU, Texas and Texas A&M among others.
