IRVING, Texas — A trio of Oklahoma State Cowboys was named to the 2021 Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Baseball Team as Max Hewitt, Hueston Morrill and Justin Campbell made the list, which was selected by the league’s head coaches.

Eighteen players comprised the team, with OSU’s three selections tied for the second most in the conference behind only Texas Tech. Hewitt and Morrill made the team as infielders, while Campbell was named as a utility player.

A senior, Hewitt played in all 18 games for the Cowboys last season, starting 10 at catcher, four at second base and three as DH, and finished second in the Big 12 with a .410 batting average. With eight multi-hit games, five of those with three hits, he finished as OSU’s first .400 hitter since 2007.

Hewitt has played in 75 games over three seasons in Stillwater and owns a career .317 batting average. He set career highs in extra-base hits (6) and RBIs (10) in 2020.

A sophomore infielder, Morrill has started 75 games over the last two seasons. As a freshman in 2019, he hit .282 with 20 RBIs and 12 stolen bases and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team while earning honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition.

In 18 games last season, Morrill hit .258 with a pair of homers and a team-high six doubles. He reached base safely in the final 17 games of the year and was named to the Frisco Classic All-Tournament Team.

Campbell was a productive two-way player in his first collegiate season in 2020 as he made four starts on the mound and appeared offensively in 10 games en route to Freshman All-America honors.

A native of California, Campbell was in the Cowboys’ weekend starting rotation and ranked second on the team with 22 strikeouts while going 1-2 with a 4.43 ERA. In his final appearance of the season, he struck out nine in eight shutout innings to earn a win against BYU.

At the plate, Campbell hit .414 (12-for-29) with a home run, two doubles and seven RBIs, and he hit safely in five of his final six games in the lineup.
