Oklahoma State's Terry Miller Makes 2022 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State could soon have another former player in the College Football Hall of Fame. The National Football Foundation released its 2022 ballot for induction and former Cowboy running back, Terry Miller, was on the list.

Should he make the cut, he’d be the seventh Cowboy inducted, joining Lynn “Pappy” Waldorf (1966), Bob Fenimore (1972), Barry Sanders (2003), Thurman Thomas (2008), Jimmy Johnson (2012) and Leslie O’Neal (2020).

It’s a star-studded ballot this season as Miller is joined by Georgia defensive back Champ Bailey, Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry, USC running back Reggie Bush, Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree, Syracuse defensive end Dwight Freeney, Cal tight end Tony Gonzalez, Syracuse receiver Marvin Harrison, Oklahoma quarterback Josh Heupel and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck among others.

Miller was a two-time First Team All-America selection during his time in Stillwater, as well as a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, a runner-up behind Earl Campbell in 1977. He also earned the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year award twice. Miller finished his career as the fourth-leading rusher in NCAA history with 4,754 yards and is still second all-time in career rushing yards at Oklahoma State.

This is really great news. I was fortunate enough to have been growing up in Stillwater in the late '60's - 70's, and got to see Terry Miller play every home game. I got to see my first away game when I was 16 in 1976 at War Memorial in Little Rock vs Arkansas with Terry Miller putting on a show. Miller was a special player, and I remember him being a very good personality, too. Lots of good players on that '76 team - we had 5 players drafted to the NFL off that team - but Miller was most definitely the star. Congratulations to Terry Miller, and Go Pokes!

This is long overdue. Terry Miller was amazing to watch, and had a tough situation as he was called on to fill OJ Simpson's shoes in Buffalo on a team that had none of the stars that OJ had to rely on. One thing to remember is that of voters in this area of the country that got to see both he and Earl Campbell play chose him for the Heisman. That '77 season when he was playing on a team that had lost all those draft picks and was hit with probation yet he still managed to nearly singlehandedly carry the Cowboy team.
