STILLWATER – The top offensive weapon from a Big 12 softball team is transferring to Oklahoma State. Morgyn Wynne, a 2021 second-team all-Big 12 selection for Kansas who ranks sixth on the KU career home run list, has joined the Cowgirls and has two years of eligibility remaining.

“Oklahoma State is the perfect fit for me,” Wynne said. “I have a lot of room to grow as a softball player and also in my professional career. I really believe in the coaching staff and have always felt like OSU is a good community that I wanted to be part of. The first minute I spoke to Coach G, I felt an instant connection. What I love about OSU is that it’s a place I could come back to even after I’m done playing softball.”

In 2021, Wynne batted .355 with 17 home runs and 49 runs batted in. Her 17 home runs ranked seventh in the Big 12 and 24th in the nation. She led the Jayhawks in hits, home runs, RBI, total bases, slugging percentage, walks, sacrifice flies and at-bats and ranked second on the team with nine doubles and 46 games started.

Wynne stands out off the diamond as well as on it.

In addition to her softball exploits, Wynne was also a first team Academic All-Big 12 honoree and was involved and engaged off the field. She was the vice president of the KU student-athlete advisory committee and had been elected as president for the coming year before deciding to transfer. Additionally, she was KU’s female representative on the Big 12 Black student-athlete council and was part of KU RISE.

“We all know about her softball prowess, but what she does off the field is where she makes the biggest impact,” Gajewski said. “Morgyn is a generational type of person. I can’t wait for her to step foot on campus and be part of this program.”

Under Gajewski, Oklahoma State has become a premium destination for Division I transfers. In 2021, three such Cowgirls earned All-America honors (Alysen Febrey from Georgia, Carrie Eberle from Virginia Tech and Hayley Busby from Virginia Tech). In 2019, Texas A&M transfer Samantha Show earned NFCA All-America recognition and was a Women’ College World Series hero for OSU.

Wynne joins Illinois State’s Morgan Day as Division I transfers joining the Cowgirl softball program for the 2022 season.

“OSU’s success with transfers was a factor in my decision,” Wynne said. “Seeing other girls come in and be accepted into the team like they had always been there was huge for me to look at, knowing that it could be the same for me. It was like those girls who transferred in never missed a beat and that says a lot about the team.”

The Cowgirls are coming off a 2021 season in which they qualified for their second consecutive WCWS and placed second in the Big 12.
