STILLWATER – It was a great weekend for Oklahoma State softball as the Cowgirls clinched the No. 2 seed at the Big 12 tournament with a 7-0 win over Kansas on Sunday to win the series.

With the win, the Pokes finished the regular season 37-14 overall and 16-8 in Big 12 play. They’ll face seventh-seed Utah on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.

“After last night’s game, it was just tough to take and watch, but that’s what this team has done,” Kenny Gajewski said. “They’ve continued to bounce back and respond in great ways and our senior class here today; some great stuff up and down. It’s just cool to see Claire Timm get a hit. Lexi [McDonald] didn’t have a hit, but had some good at-bats, the first one was really good and advanced the two runners late. Audrey [Schneidmiller,] Ruby [Meylan,] just some really cool stuff and just proud of them, they were all great. Ruby was awesome again and I just found out we finished in second place, so that’s good. Credit to this team for just fighting along and getting better each day.”

Meylan threw all seven innings, giving up just two hits with seven strikeouts with just 94 pitches thrown.

This game marked her seventh shutout and the 20th complete game of the year. She also recorded her 200th strikeout of the season, becoming just the fourth Cowgirl in program history to record consecutive 20-win seasons with more than 200 strikeouts, joining Melanie Roche, Michele Smith and Kim Ward.

Offensively, the Cowgirls hit three two-run home runs, starting with Schneidmiller in the second. Rosie Davis hit one in the third inning, her 13th homer of the season and 30th of her career, tying her for sixth all-time on OSU’s home run list.

Madison Hoffman hit her two-run blast in the fifth inning, her fourth home run of the year, giving her three home runs and a triple in her last five at-bats.
