STILLWATER – There has been a bevy of visitors in Stillwater over the past month, both official and unofficial, in the 2022 and 2023 classes. One of those prospects is one of those rare two-sport offers for the Cowboys, Jacobe Johnson.

As you can see from his tweet, he was in Stillwater to see both Mike Gundy and Mike Boynton.

Johnson is out of Mustang in the 2023 class and is a 6-3, 183-pound corner and wide receiver on the gridiron and is a wing on the basketball team. He’s listed as a four-star football prospect by 247Sports, No. 96 overall, the No. 11 ranked athlete and the No. 2 ranked prospect out of Oklahoma.

“Jacobe Johnson, 6’3 170 pounds, is one of the most intriguing prospects to come out of Oklahoma in quite a while. He holds Power 5 offers in both football and basketball, with Oklahoma State extending offers in both sports as have several schools to this point in time. On the football field, he plays receiver and cornerback but most of his time will be spent in the secondary. He is an explosive athlete, and his speed shows up quickly because of it. He has great ball skills and is polished in coverage. Because of his athleticism, he is asked to not only make plays in the passing game but also in run defense where he will crash down at the line. He is also an exceptional return man. He plays with a level of physicality that is rare for a corner but looking at his overall body of work between both sports, it is clear that that is part of his athletic identity. It is unsure what path he will take in college or if he will try to play both, but either way, he can succeed.” -Marshall Levenson, Pokes Report’s Director of Recruiting.

He currently holds some rather impressive offers for football, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Iowa State, Michigan, OU, Stanford, TCU and Texas Tech among others.

As for basketball, he holds offers from Oklahoma State, OU, TCU and Stanford. His father Malcolm played basketball at TCU and was a star for Billy Tubbs.

It’ll be interesting to see where he winds up because he’s obviously a two-sport star in high school and obviously could play either sport at the next level. As you can see from the offers above, there are multiple schools who have offered in both sports. Just going into his junior season in the fall, will Johnson choose between the two sports, or could he wind up being one of those rare athletes to play both sports at the next level? OSU has had a few basketball/football players, Adarius Bowman, R.W. McQuarters and Marcellus Rivers come to mind, but there have been a few rather successful two-sport athletes at OSU, such as Steve Mocco (football and wrestling) and Josh Fields (baseball and football.)
