Cowboys See Rise in Andy Katz' Power 36 Following Marquette Win
STILLWATER – It’s been a pretty decent start to the 2020-21 college basketball season for Oklahoma State. As I wrote about last week, the Cowboys have been just about as fortunate as any program in the country in regards to COVID-19. This young team has also found ways to win ball games, including an impressive road win over a tough Marquette team and are currently 4-0 on the season.
With the win over Marquette, the Cowboys climbed to No. 29 in Andy Katz’ weekly Power 36 rankings. The Cowboys were at No. 33, but the Cowboys “knocked off Marquette on the road for one of the best under-the-radar wins of the week.”
Marquette’s huge upset of No. 4 Wisconsin no doubt helped the Pokes’ resume and made the Marquette win that much more impressive.
Other Big 12 teams included in the rankings include Baylor at No. 2, Texas at No. 7, Kansas at No. 8, West Virginia at No. 14 and Texas Tech at No. 34.
The Cowboys also received 26 votes in this week’s AP Top-25, putting them at No. 31. They also check in at No. 23 in Jeff Goodman’s updated top-25.
There’s no doubt the Big 12 is once again one of the toughest, if not the toughest league in the country this season.
I’ve said on my radio show on Triple Play Sports Radio that the Cowboys will go into conference play undefeated and ranked in the top-25. If the Cowboys keep playing the way they have to start the season, they should be able to get past Oral Roberts and Wichita State this week and honestly, they should be able to get past a struggling TCU team to start conference play.
The Cowboys will host ORU on Tuesday, Dec. 8 with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
