Oklahoma State Pulls Off Shocker; Lands Commitments From Shettron Brothers

BOOM! Oklahoma State has pulled off a massive recruiting flip, arguably the biggest in program history, as 2022 Edmond Santa Fe brothers Talyn and Tabry Shettron have committed to the Cowboys.

Talyn has flipped from Oklahoma with his decision. He is the number one player in the state of Oklahoma and a top-five wide receiver nationally. He is also an Under Armour All American.

This decision comes only three days after Oklahoma State offered Tabry, who plays tight end.

Talyn, who holds 19 offers, has been committed to Oklahoma since October 24, 2020, and Tabry, who holds 9 offers, has been uncommitted up to this point in his recruiting cycle. The two hold a few mutual offers together but Oklahoma State was the only one that both brothers had interest in.

To give some context on the level of recruit these guys are, some of Talyn’s offers include Florida State, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, as well as the obvious in-state schools. Tabry’s offer list, while shorter, has some good names on it including Kansas State, Utah State, Air Force, as well as some of the Ivy Leagues, which also gives you some information on what kind of kid he is in the classroom.

With the brothers committing to Oklahoma State, Mike Gundy and staff has successfully stolen away one of Oklahoma’s prized possessions in this year’s recruiting cycle and once again recruited the state of Oklahoma better than anybody.

Most people that see this are going to wonder what happened here and how Oklahoma State was able to get this done. Well, this whole development has come together in the shadows over the past week or so.

While Oklahoma was hosting some of their top commits and targets this past week in Norman, the Shettron family made their way to Stillwater for an official visit, a visit that was kept under wraps and very few people knew of. The Shettrons were the only visitors on campus, and it was a full staff effort for the three-day visit.

On that visit, the staff offered Tabry, which is where the real movement started to happen. Those involved with the visit had very good things to say after the family left and felt good about the possibilities, which has come to fruition.

As a sophomore and junior, Talyn, who is 6’3 185-pounds, racked up 2,008 receiving yards with 23 touchdowns. Tabry, who is bigger at 6’4 215-pounds, caught 19 passes for 179 yards and six touchdowns as a junior last year. He really impressed the coaching staff when he was on campus a few weeks ago for ‘The Show’ camp.

While Talyn was able to develop and shine much earlier than Tabry, both of them have extreme upside. Talyn is the all-around guy and is the 1,000 yard a year type of guy that Oklahoma State is used to. Tabry is a little bit different and while some people may think of him as a tight end, it may be more accurate to label him as a jumbo athlete, because with his size, he can still play wide receiver and has shown the ability to do it well. Last year, even with only 19 receptions, he caught six touchdowns, which means he was in the endzone every three receptions. That is high value potential.

Talyn and Tabry are the 12th and 13th commitments for the Cowboys in the 2022 class and bring the class national ranking near the top-10 once again.

This also brings the Cowboys to three wide receivers with Talyn joining fellow in-state prospects Mason Gilkey and Braylin Presley. The staff was hoping to bring in one tight end/cowboy back and Tabry fills that slot and more.

Can't say enough about how big this is and I assumeand hope it will stick now, regardless of OU efforts to turn it around. Great recruiting effort by our staff and players.

I had a feeling this could end up happening and am very happy both Shettron Brothers are bound for Stillwater. Taylin reminds me a little of Justin Blackmon.
