Jordan Crook Opens Up Recruitment, but Duncanville Linebacker Still Considering OSU
(Pokes Report publisher Robert Allen contributed to this story.)
As goes with the recruiting world, even on a great day, you can still take a hit.
Today, after Oklahoma State landed the spectacular good news with the commitments of Talyn and Tabry Shettron; Duncaville, Texas, linebacker Jordan Crook announced he was opening his recruiting and backing off of his pledge to the Cowboys.
Crook had been committed to Oklahoma State since March 9 and had been close with the coaching staff since the very beginning of his recruitment.
The reason for the decommitment is simple. It is because of visits now opening up after a 15 month dead period due to COVID-19. The dead period is on now, but recruiting will open up late in July. This summer, after taking his official visit to Oklahoma State, he also took two official visits to Texas Tech and Arkansas, which he enjoyed and gave him a reason to look hard into some other schools.
“It’s the visits and the chance to go on the visits,” Crook said. “It wasn’t anything Oklahoma State did or didn’t do. They (Oklahoma State) are still involved and I’m considering them.”
Sources told Pokes Report that Crook’s dad was adament that his son should be allowed to take other visits. Likely, at that point Oklahoma State began looking at other linebackers on their board. Head coach Mike Gundy has a policy of not recruiting position slots that committed players have taken. However, once you begin taking other visits then that commitment becomes questionable and Gundy believes his program has to protect its’ interest by recruiting other players.
Crook was one of two linebacker commits in this 2022 class for the Cowboys. While OSU will look into others I would presume they will still be considering and recruiting Crook. He is an excellent linebacker prospect that is fun to watch because of his playing style and aggressiveness.
Pokes Report will continue to monitor the situation and will update as needed.
