Jacob Sexton Chooses Sooners; Gives Cowboys Clearer View on Offensive Line Recruiting
At 6:30 on Saturday evening, Jacob Sexton, 4-star in-state offensive lineman chose Oklahoma over Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M among others. His commitment to the Sooners was one that was expected for most of his recruitment but especially over the last week or so.
Sexton took an official visit with his family in mid-June, which he said he thoroughly enjoyed but it was not enough to sway him away from Oklahoma.
Losing out on him is tough because he became one of the Cowboys top targets down the stretch, but it will also help in a sense since it now gives the Cowboys a direction to move in regarding recruiting other linemen. In recent weeks, other Cowboy targets on the line have committed elsewhere but have picked up a commitment from Austin Kawecki. Some of the previous targets included Nikolass Hall and Alvin Ebosele, who chose Kentucky and Baylor, respectively.
The Cowboys will find out the decision of another target on the offensive line when Bray Lynch makes his decision on July 9. He will be picking between Oklahoma State, Duke, and Indiana.
If he chose the Cowboys, they would be at two commitments, but are hoping to end with at least four in this class. Because of this, I expect the Oklahoma State to start evaluating linemen across the country and some more offers to be sent out whether it be this summer or during the fall to find some late bloomers or just uncommitted prospects.
I would also not be surprised to see them attempt to flip some guys if they feel they have a shot.
We will know more on the offensive line position most likely by the end of this summer whether it be from new offers or even more possible commitments.
