STILLWATER – It was announced before Oklahoma State’s 42-3 blowout win over Baylor that running back Chuba Hubbard was deciding to forego the rest of the 2020 season to prepare for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
Hubbard took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to make the announcement official.
“Cowboy Country - First and foremost, I want to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Cowboy family. You welcomed a young Canadian with open arms and I will forever be grateful for the endless love and support you all have shown me over the past 4 years. It is truly an honor to represent Oklahoma State and to wear the Cowboy jersey in front of the best fans in the world.
“Thank you. Thank you to my family for being my backbone and support system. They are my “why”. Thank you to my coaches. I cannot tell you the appreciation I have for all of you and all of your guidance. Thank you to my teammates. You epitomize the word team. The bond and relationships we created will stay with me forever.
“This time last year, I decided to return to Oklahoma State for my senior season. I did so to further develop as a player, continue to mature as a man and to play another season in a program I care so much about. Since I was a kid, I wanted to play in the NFL and use my platform to provide for my family and impact communities and causes I care so much about. As I rebound from this injury, I have decided to being my preparations for the 2021 NFL Draft.
“Thank you Oklahoma State for helping turn my childhood dream into a reality. The journey continues!”
Hubbard wraps up his Cowboy career with an impressive 3,459 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns on 585 carries, with his breakout season coming during the 2019 season. Although he didn’t win the Doak Walker Award, Hubbard carried the ball 328 times for a mind-blowing 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns. I say mind-blowing because you just don’t see too many college running backs putting up those kinds of numbers anymore.
Injuries plagued Hubbard the majority of the 2020 season as he played in just seven games and posted just 625 yards and five touchdowns on 133 carries. His last game of the season came against Oklahoma, a game in which he further aggravated an ankle injury.
The 2021 NFL Draft will take place from April 29 through May 1, 2021.
