As Expected, Texas to be Without Whittington and Jones

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has had their share of bad luck with injuries this season, but they should be rounding into a healthier team coming off the open week as head coach Mike Gundy talked about getting defensive ends Brock Martin and Tyren Irby back this week as well as the other Green twin at receiver in Bryson Green. The only player Gundy seemed uncertain about getting back was running back Dezmon Jackson. Meanwhile, in Austin, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian had bad news on the Longhorns injury front.

“Jordan Whittington and Jacoby Jones are going to have surgery,” Sarkisian reported. “Whittington is on his clavicle and Jones is on his foot. There is no timetable yet, but I will keep you up to date on their progress.”

Whittington left the game with Oklahoma in the third quarter and went to the locker room and did not come back. He has good numbers this season with 24 receptions for 359-yards and three touchdowns. The former running back from Cuero, Texas will likely be replaced in the line-up by Marcus Washington, who has two catches for 23-yards so far this season.

Jones is a 6-5, 255-pound senior that has 19 tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hurries this season. There are several players that will likely see increased playing time with Jones out including Ben Davis.

The Cowboys and Longhorns kickoff at 11 a.m. on FOX at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
