Pokes in the NFL: Week 5

October 13, 2021

Week 5 of the NFL is now in the books, so let’s take a look back at the former Oklahoma State football players and how they performed. There were multiple big-time performances, including a few career-highs posted.

Chuba Hubbard: Carolina Panthers

Chuba Hubbard is getting the first-team reps with Christian McCaffrey on the sidelines and he’s making the most of them. While he’s yet to score the first touchdown of his career, Hubbard posted his first 100-yard game as he finished with 24 carries for 101 yards, an average of 4.2 yards per carry. He also posted five receptions for 33 yards.

On the season, Hubbard has 56 carries for 220 yards. He also has 12 receptions on 16 targets for 78 yards.

The Panthers host the struggling Minnesota Vikings this coming Sunday with a noon CT kick on FOX (check your local listing)

AJ Green: Cleveland Browns

Green took nearly every defensive snap for the Browns this past Sunday in the absence of Denzel Ward and played one heck of a game. He finished with a career-high six total tackles, five of which were solo stops, as well as a career-high two pass break ups. He was the target of an errant defensive pass interference call on 4th and four which ended up deciding the game as the Chargers scored on the drive.

With Ward listed as questionable for the Browns’ game against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, Green could be looking at some more playing time. Kickoff is set for 3:05 p.m. CT and since it features two former OU quarterbacks, people in Oklahoma will get to watch it. Everyone else, be sure to check your local listing.

Rodarius Williams: New York Giants

It was an unfortunate weekend for former OSU corner Rodarius Williams as he left the game against Dallas with a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Matt Ammendola: New York Jets

The Jets were one score away from picking up their second win of the season. Kicker Matt Ammendola played his role well as he went 2-for-2 on FGs, with a long of 49 yards, but was 0-for-1 on extra points. Certainly a rough weekend for kickers across the league, but the missed extra point didn’t cost the Jets the game like other kickers costed their teams wins.

The Jets have the week off, then will travel to New England on Oct. 24.
