Collin Oliver Tabbed Mid-Season All-American
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State edge rusher Collin Oliver is having a great start to his first year of college football and the national media has taken notice as he’s been tabbed a Mid-Season Freshman All-American by both ESPN and The Athletic.
Through six games, Oliver’s racked up 16 total tackles, 10 of which have been solo stops, 6.5 tackles for loss, leads the team in sacks with 3.5 and has four quarterback hurries. According to PFF, he also accounted for 20 quarterback pressures as well.
In his first start of the season after Brock Martin went down with an elbow injury against Kansas State, Oliver recorded six total tackles, five of which were solo stops, 3.0 tackles for loss, two sacks and three quarterback hurries in the 24-14 win over Baylor.
Then against a physical and talented Texas offensive line, Oliver recorded two solo stops, two tackles for loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry. In fact, his sack of Casey Thompson on third and long in the fourth quarter led to the Tanner Brown field goal which gave the Pokes their first lead of the game, 25-24.
He’s a 6-2, 225-pound DE/edge rusher out of Edmond (OK) Santa Fe who arrived on campus in January, which no doubt helped his growth. While he was expected to play some this season, the injury to Trace Ford, and then Brock Martin, thrust Oliver into action much faster than originally planned, but he certainly grew accustomed to the pace and physicality of the college game quicker than most freshmen would.
